![]() The number one priority for women who took part in water-based activities was to maintain their modesty. With this, the loose-fitting chemise gowns became increasingly fitted and more complex, replicating the silhouettes of women’s fashion. In the 19th century, the popularity of recreational aquatic activities surpassed the desire to bathe for health benefits. It is known that Martha Washington travelled in the summers of 17 to the famed mineral springs in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, to absorb the apparent health benefits. This was to ensure the dress did not float up in the water, helping women to maintain their modesty. For bathing, women would wear loose, open gowns, that were similar to the chemise (Kidwell). This was deemed particularly important for women as activity in water was not seen as sufficiently feminine. However, immersing oneself completely was discouraged. It was believed that there were considerable health benefits to bathing in the sea, thus it was encouraged for both women and men (Kidwell). She has also starred on the channel’s Outnumbered show along with The Five.In the eighteenth century, sea bathing became a popular recreational activity. Still, at Fox Broadcast Network, Montgomery has hosted the Red Eye show as a guest. In addition, the talented TV figure has also worked as a correspondent on the show Stossel on the Fox Business Channel.
